It’s a cloudy, sleepy, San Francisco morning. The kind where you can never seem to get warm…anyway, it got me thinking about quilts and my plan to make one. I started looking around for inspiration and found Denise Schmidt quilts. I love the modernist touch she brings to this old tradition.

SAS has some interesting pieces at reasonable prices. These three ‘great metal globes‘ are $195 and would make a very dramatic statement in any home.

I love these old Blue Note album covers. This site is a great resource when you want to do something interesting with type.

Su Blackwell uses books, hand cut papers, etc to make her tiny, dreamlike dioramas. Very similar to one of my favorite collage artists, Joseph Cornell.su blackwellsu_blackwell.jpg.

If you are in the Bay Area you must check out the Ruth Asawa exhibit at the De Young Museum. Her delicate wire sculptures play with light and shadow, and though appear simple, are quite complex. I was so inspired by these…I am trying to emulate her process (which is by no means easy) and have started to explore techniques which involve crocheting with wire. ruthasawa1.jpg
